Using the Community Cyber Security Maturity Model (CCSMM) to develop a cybersecurity program will enable community leaders, network/security personnel and those individuals involved in developing or maintaining plans used for and throughout the community. This course assists participants to understand what is required to develop a coordinated, sustained and viable community cybersecurity program. The course introduces participants at all levels to the DHS-supported CCSMM and can be used to guide communities and states in developing their own CCSMM-consistent cybersecurity programs. Participants are introduced to different resources that can be used for a community program. Commercial courses, policies, technology and services that should be considered in a cybersecurity program will also be touched upon.
Students will learn what is required to develop a coordinated, sustained and viable community cybersecurity program and the resources available to assist in improving awareness, information sharing, policies and plans.
Objectives
- Explain ways a community can be impacted by a cyber incident or attack
- Define concepts and terminology as it pertains to the cyber preparedness of a community
- List the critical features the CCSMM provides to assist in developing a community cybersecurity program
- Recall the improvement aspects of the CCSMM framework to improve cybersecurity preparedness in a community
- Explain why the Community Cyber Security Maturity Model (CCSMM) was developed and summarize the purpose of the model
- Recognize the differences between each level in a cybersecurity program
- Describe the four dimensions (awareness, information sharing, policies and planning)
- Be able to explain how metrics, technology, training, processes and procedures, and finally assessment fit into the overall process of improving community cybersecurity at all levels
- Gain a clearer understanding of additional DHS, NIST and other resources and be able to recall government, regulatory and industry standard resources to be used for community cybersecurity efforts
- Apply the CCSMM characteristics to a cybersecurity program to determine the overall level
- Select appropriate action plan activities to build or improve components of a cybersecurity program
