Instructor-Led Training (Live)

Cybersecurity Threats and Systems in Maritime Environments

Length
0 h

About Course

The course emphasizes execution-level interaction with maritime IT and OT systems and focuses on cybersecurity conditions that may arise during routine operations and abnormal events. Instruction is designed to be accessible to non-technical maritime personnel and emphasizes recognizing cyber-relevant conditions, assessing potential operational impacts, and determining appropriate response or escalation actions rather than performing technical system configuration or analysis.

Within this scope, participants assess maritime cyberspace environments to identify IT and OT components, their interconnections, and their relevance to operational risk. Participants analyze mission-critical maritime technologies and network architectures to determine how system dependencies and security controls influence operational resilience.

The course further addresses cyber threats to maritime operations through the identification of attack vectors, potential impacts, and points of vulnerability within maritime IT and OT environments. Participants apply maritime cybersecurity incident response procedures to select, initiate and justify appropriate response and escalation actions under realistic operational conditions.

Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Assess IT and OT components, their interconnections, and their relevance to operational risk in a maritime cyberspace environment.
  • Assess mission-critical maritime technologies and network architecture for potential implications to operational resilience.
  • Evaluate cyber threats to maritime operations by identifying attack vectors, potential impacts, and points of vulnerability within a maritime IT/OT environment.
  • Recommend appropriate and justifiable maritime cybersecurity incident response and escalation actions based on situational conditions.

Target Audience

Maritime personnel with direct access to, or responsibility for operating, maintaining or monitoring Information Technology (IT) and/or Operational Technology (OT) systems supporting vessel, facility and Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) operations. These personnel operate at the execution and immediate response level and are expected to recognize cyber-relevant conditions, assess system behavior, and initiate appropriate response or escalation actions during routine operations or abnormal events. This includes, but is not limited to, vessel operators, engineering and watchstanding personnel, facility operations and technical staff, and duty personnel required to make time-sensitive operational decisions based on observed system conditions.
