This course provides management-level instruction on maritime cybersecurity compliance requirements for personnel with responsibilities involving Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) systems within the domain of the Marine Transportation System (MTS). The course is designed to enable participants to interpret and apply federal cybersecurity requirements established under 33 CFR § 101.650(d), the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA), MARSEC Directive 105 and U.S. Coast Guard Policy Letter 01-25.
Participants will develop an understanding of how cybersecurity risks affect maritime operations, regulatory compliance and organizational readiness. Through facilitated discussion and case-based analysis, the course emphasizes cyber threat recognition, incident reporting, documentation, and coordination with designated cybersecurity personnel. The course prepares participants to support compliance activities, contribute to organizational decision-making, and maintain readiness for U.S. Coast Guard inspections, audits, and real-world cyber incidents.
Additionally, this course addresses three documented gaps identified in the Unified Training Needs Assessment (UTNA): cybersecurity knowledge gaps, incident reporting skill gaps, and inconsistent cybersecurity behaviors among maritime personnel with access to Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) systems. Instruction is focused on closing these gaps through management-level understanding, regulatory interpretation, and standardized operational practices aligned with federal maritime cybersecurity requirements.
